Going to my LFS tomorrow morning to sell my King Midas. With the exclusion of the Midas, I will have two Jack Dempsies, and a Florida Gar in a 55 gallon long. I plan on getting some new cichlids tomorrow when I sell the Midas. Any suggestions on what I should get? I would greatly appreciate some help!

Thanks!

Well since you already have the JD's (which are South American) i would go with a Managuense, Green Terror, and or Texas cichlids.....I actually have all of these right now in a 135g together with a JD.

no more. a 55 is maxed with what you have already. maybe a pleco or pictus catfish, but thats iffy with 3 fish that max out at 10+ inches.

Terrible advice. Youre telling him to add 2 or 3 more big fish?

He has a 55 gallon tank, which isnt big enough for a single managuense AT ALL...and he already has 3 fish that have the potential to max out at 10+ inches, so adding a GT or texas wont work.

I would use the money for a new tank a 55 long wont hold your gar for very long and even the JD's may get cramped in something only 12In wide. I say go for a 18" wide tank anything from a 50gallon wide a standard 75g or even a 40 breeder are all wide enough to provide some "wiggle room"

Also I hope your pretty dam good at water changes because you are full if not overstocked

Definitely. I keep it very clean. Gar is going into a pond in a month when I get home from school.

A lot of negative people out there tonight...

It's All about how you take criticism. I got it hard when I first joined. But yeah a 55 long is about maxed with 2 jd's. Sorry to say. It's all about giving your fish turning room.

Can't say I don't appreciate the help! Just wish there was more I could do with this 55!

If You want a clean up crew you could do cory cats. Or if you want to mix it up, get rid of one jd and get a gt, it's pushing tank limits but it could work.

If you're looking for a more diverse cichlid aquarium with the 55, lose what you have and opt for a few smaller cichlids like Cons, HRPs, salvini, sajica, acaras, etc.
