Hello, I just got 2 oscars, and it has been 24 hours and the Black and orange one still has discoloration(wasn't like that at the LFS.) when he first got put in tank, he went ill, swimming funny and got discolored, over night he seemed to get better, but not perfect, he is eating, but the discoloration and weak swimming is concerning me(the current from the emporer 400 is pushing him around, but not the other fish) check out the video. I had the bag in tank to even out water, and slowly over an hour or so, added small amounts of water to his bag, and then put him in. the ph is 7.0, temp is 78, ammonia is small(less than .25) no nitrites and trates are around 5ppm-10ppm. tank is cycled, ammonia just slited today after they were put in last night.

PS the little fish in the tank, are going to wifes tank, in fact most are there already...

this tank is for my long fin oscar and albino oscar and for now my EBJD.

here is a still photo, the white dot in the middle is not on the fish..LOL
all the discoloration is not normal, he was all black with orange spots, and well you can see where the color is gone.

Divert the filter output flow. It's stressing to the fish and can add its toll since your oscars need time to adapt. Switch lights off as well. And do water changes until your ammonia is back to absolute zero.

lights have been out all night and day, 'cept for when taking the pic. as for diverting the filter flow, not sure how to do that, in is an emperor 400, and there are 2 of them....

Hmmm..Were you able to do something about the currents?

Yes, the colors will return once he recovers. If you didn't divert the output flow yet, it would be better if you switch to a much weaker filter (at the expense of doing more water changes) until it is strong enough to withstand the currents.

last night i turned one of the filters off, to give him one side of the tank with no current. I have no problem doing extra water changes, just want "Roscoe" to make it.

He is stressed out. Oscars tend to hate change and get stressed from a move. Give him a week to settle in. He's also going to eat your tropicals.

the oscar's color may permanently change depending on his enviroment.

I had a tiger oscar that had absolutely gorgeous schemes of orange in my 55 gallon, then i moved him to a 250ish gallon pond for a few weeks and he turned grey striped with very dull orange.

i sold him back to the store (time for something new) and i went in about a week ago and saw him, he is almost completely black with very dark orange.

what i'm getting at is just because he's a certain color in one tank doesn't mean he'll still be that when he goes to a totally new enviroment.
