HELP!!!
Find out who did the damage. Move the Polli to a hospital tank and treat with melifix, hopefully its not too bad. You must remove the poly though or it could be dead meat. They are pretty tough, I had a Datnoid take out a delhezi once and I saved him before it went down the hatch, hospitalized with melifix(its a natural med.) and he was good as new.
Good Luck hope this helps!

You need to isolate him at once...If he's with other fish in the same water, he can be exposed to an infection.

It's best to isolate him to his own tank and water so you can treat him effectively.

Here's what you need to do:

Setup a small 10 gallon tank with a small HOB filter and heater, don't have one ? buy one..

Transfer all the bio from the old tank to the new filter...

Put the injured poly in there. Melafix will help in preventing secondary infection, the only thing that can help him heal up is time and clean water.

So do WC every 2-3 days at 30-50% rate. Add a bit of salt and keep temp at around 80-82 degrees. He'll heal up within days and will be able to re-grow his lost fin in weeks..

Good luck

YES, My hospital tank is a 10 gallon rubber maid container. Same size as 10 gallon tank but easier to storage. Just make sure the lip is thin enough for you to run a HOB filter.

How is he doing?

Thanks on the tig...I missed him too, he was 18" (died of arsenic in the water, currently have an 9" one..)

Hello,

two problems:

First ... you have to seperate the Polli at once. You also can use an improvised quarantine tank - you have not to take care about the oxygene in the water the poor guy is kept in due to his breathing with lungs (NOT swim bladder!). But take care about the escape abilities!

Second ... the fish who had done this may try this once more. I'd looked at your collection - and there are many possible ones to do this. How big is your ornate?
I think it's not a good idea to do him back in the tank where this happened ... my older ornate did a massacre under 24 Jack Dempsey of all sizes and several other cichlids after he had learned to catch them. Smart fish in a very unfortunate way ...

Greetings
Uwe

right hes in a box on the floor with a fluval 4+ and a heater, has been for a while just haven't been online

there is no more visable blood, and he is flapping his stump around and looking alot more happy & healthy.

sad story that must have been very... uh.. expensive for you :(

hes about 1' but was 10"-11" when i brought him like over half a year ago, hes nothing like my friends ornate which takes U shaped chunks out of everything else its with, mine on the other hand likes to hide under things or next to my cat fish. there are many possible culprits but ive saw nothing give it hassle and the other is still in the tank with no harm to it.

cheers for your help.

you have quite a stocklist. I don't see that 175 (or all the tankmates) lasting too much longer, which is to say that it'll probably happen again among other things. I'm banking on one of the cichlids or the ornate. Keep observing them. The best thing would be to make a moonlight for the tank so you can watch them when they're most comfortable to hopefully catch the culprit.
