I have recently set up a new sw tank. It is a 30g long FOWLR. I am currently running a Rena Filstar XP1 canister w/250gph flow rate. I have a Seaclone 100 protein skimmer (piece of junk). I am running 2 Hagen AquaClear 3000 powerheads w/264gph flow rate. I have about 15 lbs. of live Figi rock. My substrate is crushed coral. I currently have 1 blue damsel, 1 banggai cardinal, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 camel shrimp, and 5 blue-legged hermit crabs. I would like any suggestions on what I can do differently/more efficiently and what kind/how many fish I can add for a nice non-aggressive community tank. I would appreciate any input that you seasoned SW aquarists have to offer a newbie.

The first thing you can do is throw a couple of sweet potatoes in there( Damsels love sweet potatoes.) On a serious note though for a 30 gallon I would suggest a nice reef safe wrasse that is not aggresive, there are several that you can find on liveaqauria.com. Also a pygmy angel would kick ass in that tank. Your filtration kicks ass too, So no problems there. Or if you don't like that idere you can add a bunch of damsels, but nobody likes damsels, (and sweet potatoes are expensive!)

That is the ***est tank I have ever seen. JK Ya you could do your thirty like that, with a bunch of nano fish, but its your tank and your decision. Ya paparazi poopin cookie crappin needlenose.

Well first lets just say anon agressive community tank will include no blue devils. A Chromis, but not blue devil. If you want a clown, that is a peaceful type of damsel....well most of the time. Maroons would be to big for the system anyhow. The Coral Beauty will do good in a live rock setup, but..... I wouldn't keep him in anything smaller then 40+ gallons. A Flame angel or one of the Pygymy Dwarf Angels would be perfect, but once again can be a little agressive. And just for some good info only place 1 inch of adult fish per 5 gallons of water. This does have many variables, but a good rule of thumb.

1 inche per 3 gallons in a established tank, 1 inche per 8 gallons in a new one. That is what most books go by. ( Or the ones I own at least. Yours is good though it is a happy medium, but I think a coral beauty would be more than happy in a thirty long. A six-line wrasse might be pushin it a little though unless you have done your research. I will look at some wrasses for you and report back I am an experienced wrasse keeper and have kept most of the species of wrasse . I think six-liners get up to 7 or 8 inches but I am not sure. Will get back to you.

Ok I lied tou were right a six-line wrasse was a good choice, here is a ggod starter fish though
