hello i want to make a 10-20 gal sump and ive been planing it out for a couple days and i have a few questionsi always see every one using an over flow intake but i dont want to dril a hole in my tank so i was thinking of using a aquaclear 110 to connect to a pipe for intake conneted to a hose in the tank idk if this will work anyone know?

than i also was wondering is breeding guppies or mollies in th sump is a good idea?

and what kind of return pump is best?

I think you are talking about pumping water from your aquarium into the sump and then pumping from the sump back into the aquarium. You will never match the flow rate on the two pumps and the sump will either run dry of flood.

If you don't want to drill your tank you can use a HOB overflow or make your own DIY overflow pipe. A search on either of these should give you plenty of ideas.

Yep. A sump requires some sort of overflow whether drilled or over-the-back.

If you are dead set on not using an overflow you can put the pump in the tank and run an overhead filter - basically a sump that is located above your tank and overflows back into the aquarium.

Hang on back overflow look for Eshopps or CPR. What size tank are you trying to filter? Ive done a 10g on a 75g once and in my opinion it was way too small. I think the problem you are going to have with raising fry in a sump is the current is going to be too strong, but I have no experience in this so maybe someone else will chime in on that one.

Pump depends on what you want. I liked my quiet one pumps for submersible and reeflo all the way for external. Guppies will definitely be sucked into your filter, they could never live in a sump nvm breed. Rosy minnows usually can survive for a day in my sump, but they all get exhausted and get sucked up

breeding guppies or mollies in the sump is not a good idea first of all instead of increasing your dissolve oxygen on your sump the guppies suck up the dissolve oxygen for your fishes and it may lead for your fish to breath hard,im new in here hope this help =)
