Hey all, I need some help, and I'm sure someone at MFK can help me.

I'm a pretty amateur fish lover, and I have been at the hobby for 2 years just freshwater, I've learned much, but I barely know a thing about aquarium lighting. Bear with me as I may sound stupid asking this question.

So I have a 5 Gallon set up right now with black sand, and I love the light on the tank. The light is like, purple. Kind of. And I love how it shines on the black sand, it gives the water a purple tint kind of and I love it. I love it so much, I decided to renovate my 55 Gallon with the same. So I swapped my white sand for black. I realized however the lights on my 55 are white, so I don't get that tint I love on my 5.

I looked at what the 5 gallons light is, and it's as follows:

Aqueon
8,000K Full Spectrum Daylight Hg
14W 120v T8

So going off of that, I went on Dr Foster and Smith and ordered this:

Seemed like the same, Aqueon, 8,000k Full Spectrum Daylight. I just ordered 2 18" for my 55. I put them in just now and it's the same as my old lights! They are white, and I get the same freaking effect I just had. I probably sound so dumb to you veterans, but I'm getting miffed here that I can't seem to figure out how to get 18" bulbs for my 55 that are the same from my 5.

Can someone help me out? I can take pictures if my descriptions aren't accurate (Since they probably aren't).

Thanks to anyone who can respond. Also, I hope I posted this in the right section.

I use a 10000k fluo for my morning and evening lighting and it has a blueish white light, and I've seen 16000k for sale but not in person, they should be quite purple. but if you want a truly blue look you can go with actinic tubes.

Look for the PowerGlo, 18,000k. That will give you the pinkish/purple hue.
