I currently have a 14" oscar in a 135g alone and a 9" male JD in a 80g tall.

I was also thinking about picking up a zebra tilapia which is currently 10".

I know these 3 wont click. However I do have an eggcrate divider for my 135. Would it be ok to divide my 135 into 2 sections? 1 80 gallons, 1 55 gallons and put the tilapia in the 80, the jack in the 55 and transfer my O to the 80g tall. Reason for giving the buttikoferi the 80 gallons in the 135 is due to the extra width.

Opinions?

This isnt set in stone, I wanted to ask you people first.

this not ok, these are larger fish that need a larger foot print to swim in. its not just about water volume but how much room the fish has to swim in.

In theory - yes - but think of it like keeping a cat, or dog, in a cage / crate full-time. Not a pleasant life for the fish. If you love the two fish you have, I would just forget the tilapia and enjoy the two you have.
I have a gourami all by herself in a 300 gallon tank, and there is no way I would split the tank. Yes, I would love to have more fish in there, but my pet (her) comes first. Same situation with my other tanks.

on the other hand you can get another tank, which would be the best option if you want to get another large fish. get the tank before the fish tho.

Another Oscar would work if you could find a mate (you will need to vent them). You could also add a smaller GT (about 8 inch) or a few silver dollars. There are quite a few options. Just don't go with CA cichlids
