Hello,

Can someone help me in identifying what type of worms this is? I found video of the worms that are in my tank on Youtube( the long wiggling one). I currently have PrizaPro in the tank right now, but it doesn’t seem to be strong enough, it will kill off half in the beginning and the rest will survive. I am currently on my 2nd treatment. What other kind of meds will be good to kill this off? Thanks for any input

One of them is planaria. The other I think is some kind of detritus worm.

Also they are harmless, and you are really wasting your meds on them. You run more risk killing off your fish than them.

I know what that is, but can't think of it right this sec...give me a min.

What are your nitrates?

Its not harmful to your fish, but they do really well in really filthy tanks. The best way to get rid of them is to clean your tank more often and feed less.

Thanks for the info.

What can I do to control them then? 4 months ago I only notice few of them and I would have to look for them... now I can see them everywhere. What can I do to control the population? I only feed my tank every 2 or 3 days. I have stingray I feed everyday though. I've been changing water 30% every day for the last 2 weeks.

This is it right here. No matter how mcuh you try battling them they WILL come back under certain conditions.

Its a nematode, I know that much, but I can't think of the specific variety.

What are you nitrates?

Before I treated the tank with PrizaPro, trace amount of Ammonia, Nitrite 0, and Nitrate was between 10 and 20. But I had to remove all my carbon on my 2 canister because of the PrizaPro treatment and replaced 3 1/2 cambers with bio-glass media and everything jumped like crazy, Ammonia was 50, nitrite DARK purple and Nitrate DARK orange. Must have removed too much media and didn't have enough bacteria. Now Ammonia is back at trace levels and Nitrite is about 1 and Nitrate is back at 10-20.

That doesn't' sound like the poorly maintained and disgusting tank these things love. Fresh or salt water rays?

Tank is fresh water. Ray is fresh water also. I do my best in keeping my tanks clean. This is the only tank that is infested. I have 3 tanks total, but this is my tank that I sit in front of most. I will quit treatment then if everyone says they are harmless. I just need to know how to keep them under control.
