I am moving my 125 gal freshwater tank with 12 inch Jaguar cichlid. I am moving from well water to tap water. Do I have to move all the water or can I use some of the new tap water and add the conditioner. Iam new to this so I can use all the suggestions I can get. I am only going to be traveling about 1hour, so will the fish be ok with no aeration? Thanks for any advice.

Use a large cooler to transport. The fish will be fine without an aerator. I would drip acclimate him when you get him to the new place. This will ensure that your levels are all evened out.

Try to keep water in your hob filters during the move

1 hour should be fine.. Personally I take all my bio-media and toss it into a 5 gallon bucket and cover it with tank water. dump the rest of the fiter water ect and move the bio-media like I do the fish. Also cuts down alot on water sloshing around the car. x2 on useing a cooler. just enough water to cover the fish upright. and room to move about abit. but not enough to hurt itself if at anytime it freaks out.

Drip acclimating should be fine. the longer the better generaly. wouldn't go longer then 2 hours on it but I doubt you need to go more 'n 30-45 mins.

And I literally put the filter back together and dump the icky filter water into the tank. tossing out the water the fish was in.

So how much of the well water the fish is in now should I need to move with the fish or will the tap water be ok as long as it is conditioned? And how do you drip acclimate?

Do you have an air hose that would be used for air stone. You can use that to drip acclimate the fish if it is long enough. Put one end in the tank. Suck on the other end to get the water to flow, then tie it off so that only a few drop per second will come out. You can let the water from the tank drip into the bucket with the fish through the air hose. After a few hours enough of the tank water will have dripped into the bucket.

On a side one: Your well water probably won't have chlorine in it so water conditioner might not be necessary.
