I should be upgrading from a 6x2x2 to a 5x3x2.5H pretty soon. I'm currently housing 2 Aros 18-22" . 3 Datnoids 12-15". I also have a few large Clown Loaches, 16" Endlie and a 12" Flagtail. The new tank will be sitting in the same spot as the current one. Any ideas on how to tranport them? I was thinking about putting them in 1 or 2 large Rubbermaid bin while I tear down the old tank and set up the new one. I will be using 100% of the old water plus an additional 40G from my sump. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

this is what u do bro. you bring all your fishes over to my place and put them in my 75g. then you empty your 180. setup the new tank and then start shopping for new fishes.!!

You seem to be fine, just make sure you use the "old" filter media on the new tank. If you do keep them in rubbermaids make sure they are large enough bins and use an airstone just to be safe. Also I am assuming you aren't transporting these fish very far? If you are transporting them across your house you should not have a problem with what you are doing.

What time should I come drop them off? You free on the weekends? You gonna give me money to shop for new fishes? :D

Cool.Thanks

Any other opinions? I dont want to screw up on this.

what your doing sounds good. just make sure you run the filters and heaters if you need them where you live to keep the tubs warm. and try to cover the tubs to stop jumpers, it would be a shame to go to all that effort just to have a suicide.

When i moved my 24" aro i sedated him first. They sell the liquid to sedate fishes at the LFS. If I didn't sedate him he woulda jump like crazy and end up hurting himself. Everything worked out perfectly.

Adding old water is useless, its also actually harmful. All you are doing is re-introducing pathogens into a newer/cleaner tank. Old tank water does not do anything beneficial for you. Use only the old filter media.
