i jus got my spotted gar today in the morning then in the night the colour turned very pale may i know wat is happening?
thx

it's normal all captive gars do that. why? i'm don't know but you have nothing to worry about

he is just getting accustomed to your tank
fish usually change color to their surroundings and diet and their current disposition
so just relax and keep the lights off for a few days and let the guy adjust himself
and welcome to MFK

my the spotted in fron the 2 fin very short, may i know is it like tat or it is bited by other, cause i buy back the time have already.4inch

yo im from singapore too. where are you herding those baby monsters.

your gar just getting accustomed to the tank and the fin is not SHORT its just transparent , look carefully yup : ) )

My gar ate tonnes of feeders yesterday then today recuperating , at the bottom of the tank breathing heavily and digesting ,

mins a 3 incher : )

I'm not sure what you two are trying to say, but the color change is very normal. Give him a little while to de-stress and he'll be back to normal.

i will try my best to reiterate. although i am frm sgp too i HATE the slang.

his infront the 2fin like ganna bite cause very short, mine is a 4inch spotted.
is it short or bited?

the 2 front fins look like they were bitten as they(the fins) are very short. i have a 4" spotted/florida gar. are the fins bitten or merely short?

my spotted gar's front fins are very short, might i know if it's naturally like this or was bitten by another. it was already like this when i bought it back @ 4".

Much better! it's normal for gar of that size to have short paired fins.

Well now that the question can actually be understood....
As said it is very normal for these fish to have very short Pectoral fins when under 5 inches. These fins are the last to fully develop. As soon as the fish reaches the 5 inch point (Or begins scale development. which ever come first) the Pectoral fins start to grow quickly. This is all part of normal gar development.

Pale coloration at night is absolutely nothing to be concerned about. Extended pale coloration however may be a cause for concern.
