I am going to build my own acrylic skimmer over the holidays since I should have plenty of time on my hands, and this time I will be leaving room for an in sump skimmer and I will be making the fuge smaller.

I currently have an hob Remora skimmer, and I genuinly dislike it. The skimmate comes out very thin, almost water like, even after being broken in.

So, I am currently looking that the bubble maggus and the reef octopus skimmers. Between those two, who is making a better skimmer?

Thanks,
Heathd

I know a guy who has a reef octopus skimmer on his 420 gallon FOWLR. He really likes that skimmer a lot and would not own any other type of skimmer on his tank. Thick, almost tar like skimmate

I've never used one tho so I have no first hand experiance with one.

How are you liking your skimmer so far?

Oh, and I meant to say acrylic sump, not skimmer... It must be monday....

I have about 3 really good salt specialty stores around me and from what i can tell, the reef octopus is great. they use them on all of their displays as well as sell out of their stock almost bi-weekly. teh skimmate is thick and dark green to black in color. One of the three stores doesn't use reef octopus though they use deltec, also a very good skimmer.

Excellent.

I might be jumping the gun on my research but BRS's 10% off sale is ending today, so I might just pull the triger and buy it today.

I am really impressed with my skimmer so far. It took about 8 days (can't remember exactly) to break in. Since then only adjusted it once and it is taking all kinds of crud out of the water. Easy to adjust and easy to take apart for cleaning. It works a lot better than the Coralife one my freind has and 10X better than my first skimmer.

Good choice on your skimmer. That's a really good deal, at least compaired to what I could get were I live
