I want to set up a 29 g salt tank in my daughters bedroom This will be my first salt setup
I will need someassistance in doing so. I have an eheim canister i was going to use and ebo jager heater and I will need to buy a protien skimmer. I have never set one of these up. As far as water parameters go what do I need to do as far as salt content and temp and everything else. I only plan on doing some clowns yellow tangs stuff like that. Any help would be great

As with freshwater you need to watch ammonia, nitrIte, nitrAte, but you also need to watch calcium and such. Getting a Master Reef or a set like that should provide you with what you need.

Be sure to get a high quality skimmer as this is a very important piece of equipment.

You will have to watch salinity using a hydrometer or refratometer. Although refractometers are more expensive, they tend to be more accurate.

Stocking. You could have 2 smaller Clowns. But no Tangs. Tangs need 75gallon+ aquariums. For a 29 you should stick with:
2 smaller Clowns (Ocellaris, Percula, etc.)
and maybe a small Goby and/or a Blenny.

Just be sure to do your research. Research is the best thing you can do to prepare to set up a marine tank. To tell the truth, I researched for about 8 months before I set up my first marine.

Whatever you decide do not buy a seaclone protein skimmer. They are the worst protein skimmers on the market. I have a 75gal saltwater tank and a 10gal saltwater tank. I have a remora protein skimmer on my 75 and a fission on my 10 gallon.

ahhh...no they are not the worst skimmer on the market....i had one for my first tank, and it is a good starter skimmer, i made some adjustments to it, and i was emptying the cup 2 or 3 times a week...

I have a seaclone 150 and it hasn't even been modded yet and it sucks the darkest looking crap out of my tank you ever seen. I know there is much better skimmers but the seaclone is not the worst. Like it was said before me, "they are a good starter skimmer".

no doubt!! SeaClone skimmers work badass if they are kept clean! Coral life makes a very nice skimmer now, that comes in a hang on style, or sump if you ever want to upgrade! I usually recommend the coral life, because its a moe efficent skimmer if kept clean!
The one guy was also right, no tangs in a 29! stick with SMALL fish, gobies, blennys, pygmy angels, clowns, damsels, cardinals, or certain wrasse species. Like others have said do your research! And most importantly dont impulse buy fish, if you dont know anything about it!

What I meant was the seaclone works well if you stay on top of keeping the level of water in your tank at the correct level . If the level of water in your tank goes low the skimmer has to be adjusted.I will put my REMORA by AquaC,inc. against any skimmer.Their are no adjustments. It is air injected. Go to www.proteinskimmer.com. They only make proteinskimmers, nothing else.

I heard that those seaclones were pretty bad that is why I got my back-pack instead.:character0087: By the way sweet dbz smilies.
