Hoping you guys may be able to help!
i have a stunning 16" ornate, big and healthy that ive had since he was a tiny little thing.
he used to be with allsorts, clown loaches, parrot cichlids, convicts, synos, jd's, leopard ctenopomas, rtb shark etc
These are now gone and he was alone with just an 8" ancistrus and was fine (as he was with his previous tankmates)
2 weeks ago i added an 8" red tiger oscar thinking that it should be fine but no! he's suddenly gone all predatory and keeps hunting the oscar, nothing too serious yet but still cause for concern.
he has a big bit of pipe to hide in and gets fed plenty (prawns, chicken, pellets etc) a couple of times a day, once in the afternoon then again late evening as i thought if i made sure he was fattened it would calm down his predatory behaviour a bit.
this hasnt worked, i have no idea what has caused this sudden change of attitude!
any ideas what i can do? im thinking of rehoming the oscar or at least swapping him for a bigger specimen that is more boisterous as this one will not stand up for itself.
if not any suggestions what i could put with him?
I was supposed to be adding a 12"+ fire eel but thats a no go now.
hope i havent rambled too much!
any help greatly appreciated!

Hi buddy its a 55g but whats the footprint of the tank and as davis says above they need a bigger tank.

Steve

55g is way too small, ornate grows big. You need at least 120g or bigger which is better, and you could add another bichirs in. As for the poor oscar, I would definitely re home it to another tank.

the tank dimensions are
48"(l)x24"(h)x18"(w)
how big do ornates reach?
I've personally not seen one above 18".
thanks for your time, looks like i'm rehoming the "big boy" as i just dont have the room at the moment for a larger tank, gutting but dont want to be cruel to either of them.
