I have notice over the past week my oscar sulking a considerable amount, then today realised he is at the top of my tank gasping for air, on a close inspection and with his head tilted to the surface i was able to see that in the membrane of his gill juncture has large wholes in it effectively making his right gill useless, has any one seen this before i have uploaded an image at the link listed below, your help would be much appreciated i have no idea on this one and either does any body else i have asked. vets are all after hours now and only if we absolutely have no other alternative, other wise i will wait till they open normal hours tomorrow when it isnt so expensive

Thanks for your help in advance

sorry not the best photo i am trying to get a better one however, the dark area on the gill juncture on the right hand side looks like swiss cheese in real time, they open to be considerably wide

Do you have a spare tank to set up for a QT tank? My suggestion is to just try and blast this with a lot of different meds and hope for the best since it sounds like the fish isn't doing well. I suggest after putting him in the QT tank to use Furan-2 which has the active ingredient Nitrofurazone which is a strong antibacterial, that isn't the best for the fish but in this case use it. Then add in Pimafix to treat in case it's fungal, add 1tbsp per 10g.

Also add an airstone to help with gas exchange while in the QT tank. Don't worry about the QT tank being cycled
