i noticed my fish have parasites. they look like tiny bubbles on/under the skin of my silver dollars and my cichlids and ck are scrathing and doin the shimmy. ive never dealt with parasites b4 and im clueless on what to do. the tank is a 125g and treating can get pricey so i need a for shure parasite med. thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

I would add 1 cup of salt for every 30 gal of water and start raising the temp to the low 80s and maybe add an air stone to keep up the O2 level.

bubbles? are they white?

add 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons of water, raise the temperature to 84-86F and see what happens.

remember when you do a water change you must replace the salt.

i addad an airstone and turned the temp up to 82 from 79.5. the only salt i have on hand is maybe 2 cups of morton iodized salt and im not shure if i can use it, i usually use aquarium salt. what salt from my grocery store can i use?

If you want a sure parasite cure, go and find some PraziPro. Its about twenty dollars for a small bottle, but well worth it. 1 teaspoon treats 20 gallons, and you usually only need to do a one week treatment. I treat all my new fish with it, especially if they are wild.
good luck

no they almost look grey/ black and glisten in the light like tiny air bubbles but im shure its parasites. this is the 3rd time in 2 months ive had this problem but i caught it early this time it usually progresses to cloudy eyes and listless behavior as well. i thouhgt it was fungal/ bacterial b4 and used triple sulfa which only seems like it helps for a while. ive lost over 2hun in fish in the past 2 months from never noticing the parasites but now i got it figured out, just dont know how to treat. its not ick thats for shure.

you do know that silver dollars (wild caught) have natural parasites that look like black spots but it doesn't cause any damage. sooner or later they just disappear.

oh, and it's debatable, but salt from your grocery store works just as good as aquarium salt. in fact i've only used cooking salt which i've used to treat even the most sensitive fish such as rays, south american pims, plecos, etc.

thanks ML for the info. ive had my sd's for over 2 years and never any parasites or problems with any of my fish until i bought a severum and neglected to quarantine him:( i got some jungle parasite clear in the tank now, every symptom my fish have was listed on the box so well see what happens. so i can use NON iodized salt? i could only find some that still had anti-cakeing agents in it, but ive read other people have used it no prob.
