Help? -Pic- What type of cichlid is this? I think its african... help?

We are getting a cichlid from my husbands cousin.. he says its african.. thats all. We need help, can you tell what species it is? We need to know for caring purposes.

that would be a central american cichlid, looks like a jack dempsey

That's no African.I'm not certain but it looks like a Jack Dempsey which comes from either Central or South America.

yea jack dempsy i bet on black sand and all those sparkles will show alot better...... not a fan of candy colored gravel lol
