I have a 240 gallon tank. Plan on putting oscars, datnoids, arowana. I need a pump that can move water from my wet/dry, through my ocean clear 340, and up to my main tank which is 5 feet off the ground. The OC 340 says I should have a pump with 1800gph. Based off that I'm thinking that a Reeflo Snapper would best suit my needs. Any input/comments about my setup would be greatly appreciated. Thnks

I am using a Rio HF 20 and it puts out some good flow. Check out the bigger Rio HF models.

A Rio would not be suitable. You will need a high head or pressure pump. You will need to figure out about what kind of head height you will encounter and then find a pump that can handle 1800 GPH at that flow.

I would personally get a Mag Drive 24 or a Quiet One 6000 or 9000 and have a separate high pressure pump for the Ocean Clear. That way you are getting the benefits of both filters rather than just pumping clean water through another filter.

A Wet/Dry is a great Bio-Filter. If you skim water off the top, it handles relatively little dirt and thus a simple filter pad will do. The water leaving the wet/dry is very well filtered biologically but could use some polishing. For that, a cheap, mechanical only module would do (AES has some nice 20" filter housings for under $50).

An Ocean Clear canister filter is great for mechanical and can either use a chemical or biological media in the core. Thus it is pointless to run after a sump but great to run as a secondary filter. A more specialized high head pump made to take the backpressure of such a filter is a much better choice.

well the overflow is feeding the wetdry. but i have three holes in the bottom of the tank that will power the UGF. those holes will lead directly to the ocean clear.

i was also thinking of putting in another overflow, like a pipe running up thru the tank and to the mid or surface level with like a T on top of it to catch debris

You can also check out the new reeflo blackfin pumps. They are offering them for a great price right now. On my 300 I am running a reeflo dart and a reeflo blackfin 3600. I am very happy with both of them.

holy shiznit lowcel that pump is a damn energy hog. you could run 3 darts for the same amount of electricity as that blackfin, it would only be good for a tank if you have your sump 20 feet below the tank. excellant head pressure but damn i wont spend $50 per month to run a pump.

It was just a suggestion, it seems to be doing a great job on my tank.

Anyway, with about a 10 ft headheight (including connectors) the blackfin draws about 150 - 160 watts. The dart draws 146 watts at the same head height.
