I just put a 5-6 inch male Red Devil, in with my 4-5 inch female, and she hates him... She attacked him as soon as he went in, I had to put a divider up in fear for his life. She has been attacking the divider for the last hour trying to break through it to kill him. Any suggestions on what I could do to get them to get along?

take her out of the tank and give her a spanking,:D on the serious note i think you should leave that divider in there for awile and if you have someplace to put the female then remove her and indroduce her back to the tank in a couple days. if that doesnt work then there not going to get along period.

Seriously? If its just those 2 fish it ain't happening, its her tank and she can take one intruder.

If you had say 7 or 8 red devils then she wouldn't attack so full on to kill one because she would figure that if she expells that much energy she chances NOT being the dominant fish anymore, so she won't attack to kill she will just attack lightly with a little chasing or soft bites on the lower jaw to show dominance.

I would just keep one or have them breed, other than that there is no way of keeping just 2 RD together unless you have a really big tank, one will always be dominant and beat the other into a corner.

I'm sorry to tell you that Poopsmart is right.

Hmm, well that sucks. I was under the impression that you could have 2 red devils live together if male and female. They are currently in a 75g tank and were going to end up in a 125g. Ill have to see how the divider works for a few days, see if things change between them.

I agree, give them a chance to be familiar with each other and at the same time it'll give the male a few days to settle and be comfortable with his new surroundings. Right now, the female is looking at the male as an intruder and not as a mate.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Try leavin the divider there for a bit and if it dont let up take her out and put her in any suitabkle tnak available for a few days and rearange the tank a lil let the male get used to it a lil but not enough to claim it and take action on getting he rout and then add her back tot he tanka nd see if she realizes he knows the tnak more and she will feel that she needs to be almost nice to him hehe and at the same time he just is liek watever..

Well they have been in there a day so far with the divider. She is still spazing out, ramming the divider whenever he swims near it. She will be on the other side of the tank doing her thing, and if she sees him move at all near the divider she darts across the tank with her gills out ramming it.

Ahh, RD's, don't you just love them? lol It might be a lost cause trying to get them to not fight period, but keep trying what you are doing and it could work out for ya.

I keep all my big pairs divided, they will breed thru the divider just fine, a tank is just to small for aggressive fish unless you crowd them. Ken
