IN MY TANK
Hi,

My petshop has recived polyterus. I think its is a polyterus bichir bichir or polypterus lapradei, they are lower jaw type. They are lite brown with slight darker brown makings on them. The dark brown/green making are running for there from there heads down. They also have a dark brown marks on them, yellow ring around the eyes. I dont have any pics of them as yet. Please can i request the major differences on these two types. Please provide some pics if possible please.

Thank you very much

possibly is a lap, but really can't tell without pics, just look through the media lounge, you might find it there.

Regarding your query, you can try counting the number of finlets they have. If no. of finlets > 14, it's a P. bichir bichir. Otherwise, it's likely to be a P. bichir lapradei.

sorry that's not always true. i've seen lapradei with 15 dorsal finlets and P. bichir bichir with 14. Now if it's 16 or more, that's a different story and chances are it's a P. bichir bichir, but remember there are other characteristic differences between the two besides no. of finlets. So it's best to look at all the characteristics.

Divasen, can you get pics? the description wasn't really helpful.

Although that's the case, can you share the % of such an occurence? Thanks.
