1) How far miles or hr--is the move?
2) You should try and bottle @ least half of your water.
3) If you are using Bio-Wheels, or any other media be sure to keep it moist.
4) Do what you can to keep the live rock wet, and the fish can go in a cooler.
I have moved several tanks over the years and here is what I have found works the best.
Bottle at least half of the tank water, place the live rock in a laundry basket -if the rock is going to be out of the tank for more then 4 hour I spray it down with a pump/garden sprayer (saltwater/tank water of course) this helps limit the die off. Put the fish in the cooler and get it in gear!!
If possible have some stock water made up on the other end-if not, make that you first order of business when you get there. I like to use a kiddy pool to lay all of the live rock out in front of me, I feel that it is easier to stack the rock when you can see it laid out.
I fill up the tank as I stack the rock -top off the tank get it mixed and 78 degrees.
Lastly and most importantly you must re-acclimate you live stock by slowly adding water to the cooler/fish and you might want to leave the light off for a day -use you best judgment.
But there is a reason the tank was GIVEN to you--They can be a pain in the butt to move--If there is any one best thing to do is save your water and your fish will follow.
