Hey guy.... I was thinking about getting in some Atlantic Tarpons and was wondering if they can live in pure freshwater for their whole life. Thanx in advance!!!

well that's beside the point. i'm no expert but there are several species that can live in freshwater for their entire lives.

Yes atlantic and indo-pacific can both live in salt or freshwater their whole lives. Although, for an atlantic tarpon I would suggest maybe saltwater when they are older. It is not required but I think it is recommended.

There are only two species of tarpon right now. They are talking about dividing the Atlantic into two sub species. One grow much larger then the other. As to fresh water they both can live in fresh their whole lives. They do not need saltwater to live at all. They won't get as big if they aren't is saltwater but they can thrive in any mix of it. Right now I have 5 Atlantic's in pure freshwater and they are doing great!

Wow really nice fish! What do you plan on keeping them in once they get larger?

Thanks

I actually have them for sale right now. If they don't sell I'll have them in my ray display which will be upgraded to a 10'x10'x3' once I get my house. Then once my 10k is completed they will be in there.
