Hello all, your advice is greatly appreciated here.

I have been running an eheim 2227 wet/dry canister for about 2 1/2 - 3 years on my 75G. This filter has a wet/dry floater compartment attached to the front of the canister. It's a green cylinder with a styrofoam buoy inside that rises and falls with water level. There are 2 openings for water to travel into the floater compartment. 1 is at the top of the compartment and the other, larger opening, is at the bottom.
When i first installed the filter I wanted to see what would happen if the electricity went out. I pulled the plug and the canister filled up with water. The water level rose to the 1st opening (top opening) on the wet/dry floater compartment and would slowly drip out from it. I took it apart, re-assembled it and it still dripped when the power went out. Eventually over 6 months or so the drip stopped and I had no problems with it. Although I always considered it the weak link in my filter.
Tonight I cleaned the whole filter and changed substrate. I re-assembled it and fired it up. I then pulled the plug to make sure it wouldn't leak during a power failure. This time it sprayed from that same place at the wet/dry floater compartment that it originally dripped from a couple years ago. I took it apart, cleaned those black sealing 0-rings and put it back together. Tested it again and still, it sprayed like it crazy. What should i do? has anyone else had this problem? The o-rings look like they are in good shape...i think its just a lousy design on the part of eheim. Im just worried that if power goes out and I am not home i will return to a flood on my floor. help please!

It may be time to replace the o-rings. I have the 2229 and have not had the same problem.

It may be possible that the floater compartment is slightly cocked and not lining up perfectly. You could try to disassemble/reassemble the floater compartment again and apply a bit of regular vaseline to the o-rings. Is there a chance you have a slight crack in the canister body where the top of the compartment touches the body?

I too have a 2229 thats been running for over 9 years now. I have not had a single problem with this filter. I would follow deedas advice. If nothing helps, it would be worth it to replace the orings and see if that fixes it
