Can I use quick Cure in a tank with my Senegal Bichir? I noticed a ghost shrimp that seems to have ick...after a full inspection of the tank I have found one other fish that seems to be infected as well. The Bichir is fine but I seem to remember that there are certain medications they are extremely susceptible to . The bottle said that the quick cure contains 99.20% Formaldehyde and .75% Malachite Green.

Is this safe to use in my tank?

If not can you suggest an ick treatment that would be more appropriate?

THANKS SO MUCH!

no u can't use it with the bichir

Okay, good to know...what can I use? What can I do?
if the bichir doesn't have ick then take him out and just treat the fish that does have ick..

leave the bichir in there- raise the temp to 84- even 86 add a bunch of salt- atleast 2 or 3 times your usual aquarium salts. do a water change every 3 days or so. the heat an salt will make the ick fall off but it wont kill it- so you definatly need to do some gravel vaccuming to clear the disease.

Okay, Quichk update:

My ghost shrimp does not have ick...as they apparently can't have ick...I guess my ghost shrimp just looks like that. However, I do have one fish that still does have ick. He was transferred from my smaller tank because he was being aggressive and I thought a bit more room may be helpful. The smaller tank I just spoke of was treated for ick less than a week ago after I noticed that my new albino bristle nose pleco had a severe ick infection. So, it is obvious that the infection in my bichir tank was transferred when I moved the fish over.

All that aside I will still need to treat my bichir tank, have no idea how to go about doing so, and would prefer to not be reliant on the advice given to me at my LFS.

did you not read what i posted? raise your temp an add more salts. then follow with some water changes. do you add aquarium salt when you do water changes or add new fish? you should be doing that all the time.

I know this is old but I dont think salt is safe with bichir
