I am ready to take the plunge with a drip system. I have copper water lines above my tank already (180 built in basement wall, backside exposed to laundry area) and access to a floor drain 8' away. I plan on a carbon filter in line and a saddle valve on the pipe at the least. I can drill my sump for the overflow pipe for the drain. What is best recommended for dispensing into the tank? Drip emitters? Do you guys use the poly line for ice makers? I have done a bunch of searching on here and would like to see the successful setups.

Where is Egon? He is the one of the masters of the drip system. You can also check my old threads, I have a drip system as well.

go here. http://thefilterguys.biz/ Get the number and call 'em. They're super cool, love to talk. They'll sell you a chlorine/chloramine kit probably. I just use the poly line. I didn't do a "saddle valve". I cut the water line under my sink, put a T with compression fittings--do it right. Once you do this, you'll never look at it again, so if the saddle valve starts leaking you'll have damage under the sink. Do the best job you can the first time.

I just searched back through all my posts to find this video of my sump showing my drip system--just for you :) thread explaining sump set up and drip system. make sure and watch the video! I spent a long time searching back through my posts to find that. :)

okay, so I'm going to get the filterguys 3 stage chlorine system, which gpd regulator should I get for my 180? 40 gpd?

I use a Chemilizer injector to add water conditioner, drip has been running for the past 6 years just five.

I run 40 GPD regulator on my 540 gallon, and it's plenty. I have 60GPD regulator in the closet thinking I'd need it if nitrates creep up...I've never used it yet.

The you drip per day, the more often you have to change filter cartridges.

Did you get chloramine test kit?

I checked out our water companies website, no chloramine added. Just chlorine. They do add orthophosphates depending on the source used.

Thinking about adding a selenoid to shut the drip off when the power goes out or adding a mixing valve to set a constant temperature. I have a fear of a cold water drip chilling my tank out if the power goes out for any period of time while I'm away. Crazy or not?

A bit crazy. Not an issue in the summer anyhow. In the winter, by the time it's gone through the pipes in the house and gets into your tank, it's not freezing cold anymore. It might be an issue for a 5 gal or 10 gal tank, but not for our MFK tanks. At least if you drip, not flush.

I agree with HarleyK but if it gives you piece of mind then it's worth doing.
