We have a green spotted puffer, they say they're supposed to be brackish but ours is fully fresh (its how we got him). He's been doing fine for the last month, depleated our snail population almost totally, and we recently just put him in his own tank, i'd say about 4 days. Just today we noticed white bumps, almost pimple like, on his body and he looks weak. What could it be and how can we help him? Pics Later...

Our first puffer died with no symptoms or anything and we don't want to lose another!:(

They need salt. This is exactly what happens when you keep a Green Spotted Puffer in freshwater. As they grow, they need increasingly saline water, approaching a marine salinity as they mature.

Alright thank you very much.. my question though.. they're supposed to eat snails but snails can't survive in salt, or can they?

And hes only in a 1.5 gal right now, he's only about an inch, but what would be a good enough amount of salt to put in?

First of all, he needs at least a 10gal. even at this size & A decent filter. Add 2 tablespoons of marine salt(not aquarium salt) into a glass of water and stir it up for a 1.5 gal. or 3 tablespoons if you get a 10 gal. Add this much once a week for 2 weeks then stop, that should be enough for a while. If you change the water repeat adding salt.

can someone tell me what the bumps are? we understand that hes hurt cause he was fully fresh, but we're changing that now.
