Ok so this is my Cichlids next attempt at breeding.

What colour do the eggs go when fertilised? They are Jewels, I have another breeding pair but these ones seem to eat the eggs.

What is best thing to do?

Thanks read that before, but does not say what colour the eggs should be. They are a grey colour at moment.

Just in and they seem to have ate half them!

There are different reasons why cichlid parents eat the eggs from what I have read online. One of them is inadequate amount of food and stress. Do you make sure that the parents are fed enough and eat a varied diet? My fishes ate their eggs when the eggs were not fertilized. Also from what I read through the internet, it may take your fish several attempts before your have a successful batch (a learning experience for your fish). Check your water parameters too, it will stress your fishes as well. It's also a good idea to have dither fishes as well so the parents are distracted and focus on protecting their eggs from other tank mates. It's a good question to post up, you might also try surfing the web or look in this forum. Your question may have been posted. I hope I helped you with your question..keep searching the web and other forums for answers...Good luck and hope you have a successful batch.

Yeah I vary their diet a bit, they only really enjoy bloodwork and prawns on occasion, they have went off hikari gold and cichlid sticks so eating mainly blood worm at moment. Although they are not eating much at all while eggs in tank, they have a little pile of food next to the eggs but dunno if that for when they hatch?

Should I seperate them from eggs do you think?

Thanks

Unless you plan on turning the fry into feeder fish leave them with the parents. They (hopefully) will do a better job than you on making sure everyone is fed and kept track of. Might take them a few trys to get it right but it beats you trying to get the fry to eat reguarly and enough.

Well up this morning and they have ate the eggs again and the male is chasing the female about the tank!!

Just need to wait another 2 weeks!

sometimes they eat the eggs because conditions aren't quite right, either water parameters or stress in the tank

Q: are there any pleco-type catfish in the tank? they will eat eggs also
