Man guys my basement renovation is killing me!! My main tank is down and all my fish are spread across 6 tanks ranging between 20-40 gals right now.. I've already lost my 18" ornate 12" delhezi from stress and my awesome 8" ebjd found a way to jump to his demise =(... now my prob is a filter, I have a 6" amph sagittae xanthic in a 20 gal and the filter stopped working sometime while I was sleeping, so it was off for anywhere between 3-8 hours... It's a penguin something i think 250 it's rated for 50 gal... So my question is what do I do now is the bacteria all dead and a new cycle beginning? I hope not... Also does anyone know the directions for the API ammonia drops?? I think it's 8 drops each and then shake for 5 seconds but I can't remember exactly... Anyone who took the time to read all this thank you, and give ke some advice

Hey... i don't think that your filter media should be dead as long as it stayed moist... if it did indeed dry, squeeze the mulm from one or two filters into the other filter, or change the media if it'll fit and this should give you an instant cycle.

API Liquid Test Kit for Ammonia directions:

1) Add 5Ml water to test tube

2) Add 8 Drops from Amm. Test Solution #1

3) Add 8 Drops from Amm. Test Solution #2

4) Shake vigorously for 5 sec

5) Wait 5 Min

6) Read against chart

hope that helps...

Ok well there was water in the filter but it is a bio wheel the wheel could possibly have dried out since it's hot in my room, I'm gonna replace the cartridges in my other yanks emperor 400 and put the used ones in this filter, man I hate hob filters but with all these little tanks I have no choice right now... Eheim and sumps ftw... And thanks a lot for that test info I did indeed remember correctly
