okay so i have a 55 gallon tank that now only has a pleco, 5 very small bala shaarks and 3 emarlad cory cats do to some evil austrailian rainbow fish that went on a killing spree (the rainbow fish are now gone). i am wanting to get to get a black ghost knife, discus fish, and angel fish. (let me add that in three months i will be getting a 125 gallon tank).

i know that i can only have one bgk (my fav.) but i was wondering how many of the others can go in the 125g when full grow without over crowding and if anyone has some good ideas on some other pretty / compatible freshwater fish to go with them?

all help is very much apreciated!

What advice I can offer - Discus should be kept by themselves, in low ratios and really warm water temps with lots of water changes. They are not, in my opinion community fish, mixed or otherwise.

I would say you are pushing it with what you have now. The Bala sharks will grow to over 12" and you have 5 of those. The common pleco will do the same. The BGK with grow to about 20".

My advice to you would be to get a larger tank before you get any more fish. You never know what might happen. 125s are nice tanks, but normally for only a small amount more you can get a 150 or 180. I would try for more along the lines of a 180. Try craigslist for some good deals on used tanks.

As an owner of a 150g, let me say that I wish I would have waited to get a 180g. The extra width is nice...granted I spent $150 for the tank/stand so the deal was too good to pass up.

So if you're going to start looking at the 150/180g tanks I'd advise sticking with a 180g in mind, unless you get a killer deal on a 150g like myself.
