Since my mum wont let me get a Piranha (Due to her thinking there the vicious man eaters people say they are) I have done abit of forum searching :P Ive seen this fish and it sounds and looks amazing o.o
However due to pricing issues how much would a small poly cost and could i keep any of the species in a 75G for life (So is there any small species)

U can keep all the upper jaw species in a 75 with the exception of ornate. Some you could choose from would be

Senegals
Delhezi
Palmas

There's more but these are the more easily available and the Senegal is the cheapest by far at around 10$ for most

Thy are pretty much all the same. Clean water varied diet. And that's pretty much it haha also sens have a reputation for being the most active bichirs and although its up to individual fish personality I somewhat agree. Just a FYI just in case u want a lil less lazy one:) good luck with which ever one u choose, haha in a and 75 u can house multiple polys so maybe u can choose all of them :p lol

Ah right so in a 75 I could keep a sen and a less active one? Also ive looked online at a website that sells bichirs and it says Delhezi's are difficult to care for but for the rest it doesnt say there difficult does that meen the delhezi is because i find that the prettiest one

Given the proper filtration and water changes a lot of the poly experts on here sugguests that even 3( /upper jaw species) can live comfortably in a 75 haha oh course me being a guy who likes to push limits would even dare say u can push it to 5. Polys are pretty social and even if u have all the room in the world they will still pile ontop of eachother in a corner haha but its all up to how many u feel comfortable with.

ok i think ive made up my mind im hopefully getting 1 polys and 1 plecto catfish but ofcourse the final word isent up to me -_- wish me luck persuading my mum tomorrow :)

Haha oh I forgot! Plecos suck on the slime coat of polys which can make the poly susceptible to diseases. Soooooo I suggest no Plecos but u can take got chances if u wanna, I've heard success stories with bristlenose Plecos before I think but I wouldn't risk it lol. Good luck with ur mum though!

I would definantly get a delhezi from what i have heard on here they are the 2nd most active. I love their pattern to. If you get one you WILL NOT regret it (my opinion). As far as the limit. I would say if you really wanted to and you had the money and some extra time for water changes you could fit the whole palmas set a delhezi and a sen. But if i were to pick out of them all i would say (if i were to get all the upper-jaws this would be my order) 1. Delhezi 2. Palmas Buettikoferi 3. Retropinnis 4. Palmas polli 5. Ornate 6. Mokelembembe 7. Palmas palmas 8. Senegalus 9. Weeksi

If you wanted to include you could say teugelsi i would've put it at number 1 but you have to commit to months of research and sometimes hundreds of dollars. But if you wanted to get it really bad i would put it at number 1 because of the over all feeling of the achievement. And Sometimes if you are really lucky it can be really red. But then again your just starting out If i were you i would pick a delhezi and See where the hobby takes you. If you like it i almost guarantee you will not stop at 1 lol.
