One of my red tail catfish has a black mark on its tail fin why is this there?

I will when i get home cus im at oscar n redtail cat's house the tail looks exactly the right shape just instead of all red it has a black bit on it.

still cant tell without a pic, but from your description it dosent sound too bad, has it always been there or did it just spring up out of nowhere?? How big is he??
