Last saturday my needlenose gar died...he was healthy the day before he died. Now yesterday my pleco died and he was healthy the day before as well. my 1 blue/2 gold/ 2moonlight gouramis seem healthy and my BGK is swimming and eating well too. I inspected the needlenose and pleco for ick and no signs. They dont have bloated stomachs so I dont know whats wrong and im worried about the other fishes. They are in a 55g tank with a tetra filter good upto 65 gallons i think. I change only 1 filter every week or 2. The ph is is around 7 and the amonia is the lowest before 0 on the test(i think .2 ppm). Can any1 help me?

the temp is always at about 28 degrees celcius
what other params is there
sorry im still new

Your tank is still cycling. Ammonia should be Zero. Any ammonia in a tank is toxic to the fish. Long term exposure will kill them.

Other Parameters are: Ammonia, NitrIte, NitrAte.
Nitrogen cycle: Ammonia --->Nitrite---->nitrate

Ammonia released from fish is converted to nitrite, which is converted to nitrate. (Nitrate is the least toxic and what we want to see in your tank. Don't want ammonia).

Like the previous poster said, do water changes and do not clean the filter until your ammonia reads 0.

Keep us updated

this tank has been running for 3 months now
i do 25% DC every weekend
i might be overfeeding...
could that have killed my needlenose gar and pleco...cause i would think the BGK would be the first one gone if thats the case

Unless you see lumps of decaying food in your tank, the food won't be enough to raise ammonia that high; with proper filtration.

Step up the water changes and DO NOT clean filters until your ammonia reads zero.

i have the filter with 2 cartridges and i only replace 1 cartridge every 2 weeks
how am i supposed to change it?

thanks for the help guys!
and it sucks losing fish i feel guilty
