Just filled my new 2400 gallon pond up less than a week ago. Today I notice a wet spot on the back of my levy. It seems the pond is leaking slowly and going underneath my rock and levy. How do i find the leak and how do I fix it. :nilly::nilly::nilly::irked::irked::irked:

How much did it leak down?

Let it leak down till it stops (that will tell you approximately the level of the leak) or pump it out (far away & downhill from the pond).

Had you put and large rocks or driftwood in it yet?

Look in all the usual places.... folds, under anything that could puncture it and look for any signs of high spots where you walked while you were installing the liner. (any seams in the liner?).

After that it's 'hands & knees & rub down the liner with your hands :nilly:.

Ok I found the problem. It was a small hole size of the end of a ink pen, if that. It was a small one. I went to rural king and bought this patch thing made for the liner and patched it. Guess what caused the hole....GLASS sticking out the side of the ground...I got it out, got it patched, filling back up now. I hope it's fixed. I am glad I didn't have any fish in it yet. I used my 3500 gph pump to pump the water out, lol it didn't take long at all. Now back to building my waterfall from my other pond to this one :D. Thanks

Let the patch fully cure b4 adding new water....

Don't walk in it any more that's for sure!

And ALWAYS get your beer in cans when building projects like this! :D :j/k:
It's amazing what you can find in the ground (just never a couple of diamond to help pay for the ponds).

How come we don't have pix? I'm sure there's a good excuse (who cares post them anyway).

Hi I am verrry new here. In fact I searched for a forum to help me on a pond liner leak. I have read this post and I am waiting to see how far down my leak is. The pond is above ground. I inherited it by a renter and I love it. My problem is similar to this post EXCEPT - My pond has large goldfish in it already. Can I still fix it with them in it or do I need to start looking for a place to keep them until I do? Thanks a bunch. I promise to introduce myself and and my fish later but for now I am PANICING!

Go buy a kiddie pool while you still have water to put in it, the leak will be easier to fix without worrying about critters.

Then start a new thread up on your progress.

hey, i fixed my leak easily!!! i started draining it with a 3000gal/hr pump and as it went down i poured some milk around the pond and saw where it was going out at, it went right out the hole. so i went to a store here named rural king and bought a patch kit made for pond liners. it worked great, good luck!!!
