i have a prism delux protien skimmer and have been screwing with it for like 3 months. the question is HOW DO I SET IT I get a ton of bubbles in the tank ( even at the lowest setting) and the top tank( the skimmer where the gunk is supposed to go) fills with water WITHIN TEN MINUTES
how do i set this thing?

Sorry wish I knew. Reason I avoid a Prism is they are notoriously hard to get adjusted. If I would have seen your other post before this I would have recommended the Reef Octopus HOB skimmer- easy to adjust and really removed the gunk. Got one 2 months ago and was glad I waited to get it.

have you tried putting a sponge before it gets put back into the tank? I never find good quality in any HOB. Some do the job that's needed. Though i must say being as against HOB skimmers i purchased one. I got a backpack 2 brand new for 50$. I use it on my 46 gallon and still not sure if i am satisfied with it. But it seems to be getting by.

step 1: unplug the skimmer.
step 2: drain the water out of it.
step 3: throw it out.

I had one before with the same problems. Could never get it adjusted right so that the tank wasn't filling with bubbles or without filling the collection cup in a few minutes. The motor finally blew up when the collection cup overfilled and some how water ran down the side of the unit and around the motor.

Do you use a sump or is this a HOB? You should have your water line set about half an inch to an inch below before it goes into the collection cup before its turned on. (well that's around where i usually find a sweet spot) Is the water from the return splashing into the water creating a lot of surface agitation? If so take some PVC piping and run it about and inch - 2 inches under the water surface.

Hope this helps, GPrime.
