Hey yall. I have recently noticed that a small protrusion under my CK's mouth and is swollen and red, and it is getting larger. I confirmed that with an older pic of it and I would like some help identifying/diagnosing and possible treatment plan I need to fix my guy up. Sometimes depending on wether mouth open or shut it protrudes further out....See below.

tonight..and getting better at taking pics sorry 1st pic is blurry. He has made so much progress everywhere else since his stint at lfs and growing larger, healing split fins and better coloration and a lot more active. Is it life threatening? A tumor?

I hope it is not a parasite issue. It is getting larger though. It is weird...anyone else have an idea? Would I treat the entire tank or do I treat just the CK in a seperate tank?

Do you see any thing like a worm sticking out from the wound anywhere? If you do, then you could have an anchor-worm problem. If not, then I would say either a tumor or just a sore that is now infected.

I don't think it's a parasite. I've never seen parasites occupying the mandibular area alone. There's simply not a flourishing resource in that area.
It appears to be an abscess. I've seen infections, like that, in predators species where a fin ray or bone pierces the mouth wall and a portion breaks off to form the core of an infection pocket.
I'd anesthetize the CK and lance the abscess. Then treat the wound area with a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Once lanced, the cause of the infection should be ejected along with the purulent serous-sanguinous drainage.
Of course, some of the drainage should be saved and checked under a microscope to verify that a parasite isn't the offending agent.

Thank you everyone. I feel better it is not a parasite. Oddball, you are the man. I will wait a while first and see i the thing goes away, if not then I will consider what you have suggested. Thank you once again...
