ok i bought my first arowana the other day, he is 4 inches and in a 55 gallon with a peaceful gold severum . I woke up this morning and he was half dead and he is now sinking to the bottom and gasping for air.
Is he dying? is there anything i can do?

Dieing ...? Yup.. Anything you can do to save him ... ?Probably not.. That's why therre are no garrauntees on Fish like Arowana..

Though before you buy another.. What are your water parameters..? Including Temperature.. How much have you read about Arowana..

And suggestions before you by another..

1-Don't buy under at very least 8" ... 12" is better but 8" is the norm..

2-Read more in this section.. There is a sticky that Del wrote.. Read it. as well as other posts in this section..

so im pretty much screwded=( everything in the water is fine, ive been into fish for about a year now and have saltwater tanks and a handful of freshwater tanks. it sucks though, because they arent exactly cheap

Good advice. Very small arowana's are rather fragile. If your severum decided to heckle him (as severums will do) one small nip and it could be lights out for the arow. Sorry

my rule is BUY A HEALTHY FISH!

you should have no problems if you start out with an arowana that has a clean bill of health and if your provide a proper environment and care you should have no problems.

something went wrong in this case, what it is?.... i as clueless as you...:(

You could try a water change and add a good declorinator to the water. You might even try some aquarium salt. Sorry your Aro is doing poorly. I almost killed mine when I stained my aquarium stand.

I've had no problems raising Aro's from babies. I always had to get rid of them when they got too big. If the Aro is small, I always put him alone at first till he gets a little size on him.

the gold severum wouldnt of nipped him, all his fins were fine and the severum stays hidden all day. Im thinking the temp in the tank might of been messed up, i keep it at like 76- 78. Needless to say i woke up this morning and my baby was dead. I dunno if i should try again or not, im kinda discouraged and dont exactly have the money to throw down 20 bucks to get a fish thats gunna die on me again

im only 15 and dont have a job =( i had been wanting one for a while
