Female.

Are there any more cichlids in the tank with her? Usually competition or a male will have them showing off their colors.

yeah i'm leaning more towards female too. the pelvic fins and dorsal fin look dark and i don't see any blue spangles on the body or the fins. My old female festae had a lot of green on her face.

I'd like to see some other pics of this one to be sure though. (and because you can never see too many pics of a nice feste :D )

Thanks everyone for your inputs.

Balton: Currently I do not own the Red Terror and I'm in talks with somebody to get him/her. I believe right now the RT is only w/ a male oscar but no aggression towards each other. The current owner also indicated he/she was part of a pair but the bigger one (told was a male) died. So his hunch is that its female but I wasn't a 100% either.

It has the striping like a female so I would guess thats correct. How big is she?? Females only get about 8" I can't be sure though since your RT looks nothing like any of mine. My females have black stripes with a red and orange body. My males are goldish with red speckled fins. ( They lost their stripes at about 12". Hope that helps

It has stripes, no body or fin spangles and there's only a few blue speckles at the end of the dorsal fin closest to the tail which is indicative of female.
