Hi, i want to ask for help to restructure filtration and tank on my Dad's red aro.. i have 1 week to finish this before i flew back to singapore.. my Dad's aro is in 6x2x2 tank.. he has problem with gill curve 1 year ago.. and now the problem is back.. i assume the water quality is poor since the filtration is only jebao 1500l/h, heater is rena(sometimes on sometimes off),and resun 4 outlet airpump.. i'm thinking to restructutre this..

My first step is adding OHF with 3500l/h pump .. so the flow will be around 9x.. maybe i want to put wavemaker & buy new heater..

any advice more? tankshot will be uploaded.. thanks guys..

Invest more on good filtration system. Maybe a sump, cannister filter or both. this is good for a lazy man like me since less WC. :D

Nonsense:nilly:more filtration does not mean less water changes.

You didn't mention the size of the aro? Gill curl is also the result of cramped space (mainly not enough room to turn around), so if your aro is 20+", I would attribute gill curl to the 2 foot depth of the tank.

What do you have connected to the pump? If you're just running airstones, you're not doing anything for actual filtration. I would recommend throwing a couple hydro sponges on for starters. Would also go with a canister filter (eheim and Fluval are both great). Forget the wavemaker and focus on building up your bio filtration.

hi guys, thanks for the reply.. the aro is around 18" i takeout the powerhead pump used for wave.. add big round airstone, add OHF with ceramic rings as media with 3000l/h.. the temperature is 33c.. i ordered 7x3x3 tank with sump tank below.. which will be ready next 1.5month after cycling.. the canister is filled with filter wool, bioball, ceramic rings.. the left gill membrane starting to curl but the right gill still normal.. i add some aquarium salt..

indo temp is pretty stable all year right? if so i'd avoid the heater until water back under control. warmer water makes ammonia/nitrites more poisonous. another thing, jebao sucks. invest in a good canister like eheim. i'd suggest eheim 2260 with micron filter sock and 15l of mr aqua cr or eheim substrate/pro II.

agree jebao sucks.. haha.. but i don't think i will bought eheim 2260 since next month the new tank with sump tank will arrive.. so the alternative i add OHF for temporary..

here's the pics 20" aro with 12" Endli
