Ok, I am having a rough fish week. First, my niger cat burnt himself on the heater, and now the female bass in my pair is going to die VERY soon. She is no longer moving as she can only swim at a nearly sideway angle. She just sits on the rocks at the bottom of the tank. That being said, she seems rather alert (fins always elevated and such) and aside from being obviously stressed out does not seem to be suffering too much. Her breathing is steady but a bit slow, not too much however. She stopped eating about a week and a half ago, and I don't know why.
I had to move all of my fish from my 135 to my 210 because of a tank sell and knew doing so was probably not the best thing, but I really didn't have a choice. This happened about a week ago. She has no visible signs of any problems and her colors are generally spot on. When startled she will dart sideways from one side of the tank to another, but this is the only time she moves. The tank move was done by moving all the water from my 135 to my 210 plus 50 new gallons. The filters are stable and setup on the new tank, so literally the only thing that changed was the glass, the new 50 gallons of water, and the substrate.
The substrate could be an issue as I opted for a cheaper method and bought river rocks from Home Depot, but she was already showing bad signs before. Also, most of the other fish are ok as well...with one exception.
One of my other peacocks, another female, not in the pair, is now refusing to eat as well, and hasn't taken the shrimp they love for four days. She is still swimming well though, she just doesn't show any interest in me or food which is very odd. I gave feeders yesterday, but she only ate a few then as well. So, obviously something is going on that is spreading or what not.
The other peacocks are doing great and love their new home. I have never seen them so bright and active. So, I am thinking it isn't the tank change, though that might have caused more stress, but something else.
I did let my water parameters get out of hand about 2 weeks ago because of a personal issue that tok over my life, but the water is fine now. I have added salt to help whatever is going on and raised the temp.
I really don't want to lose my female or other bass, so any help would really be awesome. I am thinking I only have so much time, so please reply. I am lucky to have a proven pair and don't want to lose that.
Thanks MFK!
