Hello everyone, I am new to this board and relatively new to fish keeping.

I am planning on setting up a 20g tank in my apartment and I wanted to pick your brains for good ideas. I would like to set up some sort of an Amazon theme with live plants, but I am afraid to blindly choose fish because of their potential size and compatability.

Any suggestions for plants and fish would be appreciated. I would rather not have fish that require live food because of the need to contantly purchase feeder fish.

Thanks

You could try a few dwarf cichlids, such as any of the rams and the cockatoos. you could go with gouramis and smaller tettras. Some african butterflyfish or leaffish would be cool, or a maybe some of the smaller freshwater puffers. Really just depends on what you want in your tank. A few schools of different kinds of small tetras would be cool.

I have had puffers before and they were a lot of fun. But they are nasty as hell - one ate everything but the head of a tetra I had in the tank.

- Isn't a ram a tough one to keep?

No rams are not very hard to keep just get a few plants and keep your ph very low. I use driftwood and lots of live plants. You get a few of those rams in there and in around 6-9 months you could be having ram babies that could bring you some serious side cash!!!

gouramis and tetras for fish. Amazon swords for plants.
