After I placed my senegal in my new 422 4-side black tank, it started behaving abnormally. Initially, it was roaming about in it's new tank but then it started pressing his nose against the glass. When I placed a huge black cardboard against the transparent glass, it settled down. That's when things started to get strange. It started shaking its head, once in a while. Although it seems to behave regularly, I'm afraid that putting my other bichirs in the tank might trigger such behavior in them as well. Can anyone help?

did you do water change?if you did then watch out for chlorine level and ammonia?specify your tank a bit more?whats in it?

As much as you love the thread title, please provide sexplanations for this irregular behavior. Thanks in advance. It seems to have calmed down a bit, but I'm still worried that something might hasve gone wrong.

Yes, I did a water change. 50% water from yesterday night and 50% water from the morning before yesterday. All it was commed with was some feeder fish, nothing else. However, 4 feeder fishes died mysteriously in the new tank and none were consumed by my senegal bichir.

that is probably why your sen shaking his head; its not shaking, but your sen is having breathing difficulty. Put dechlorinator everytime you change the water, specially when you chance that much of water. Your feeder die for the same reason, chlorine would kill your fish in no time. Your bichirs may survive from it for a while cause they go up for air, but not for long. It maybe better if you stock the water for a few days before using it. Any otherwise, check also the ammonia in your tank filter.
Sens normally adjust with their new environment faster than other, they're not that fussy with food also.
Feeders are bad for them. I supposed you realized that already. Otherwise quarantine them first prior feeding them to your bichirs.
