Hi guys,

I've had my senegal for about a month now. I bought it as a 25cm adult male.

When I bought it he was yellowing and quite pale. He came from a bare bottom tank. See first couple pics from here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?512890-New-Senegal-Aquarium-waiting-on-fish

After about a week he darkened up nicely (see second bunch of photos).

I got home from work today and he was quite pale and seems to have lost his colour (gone back to a little browny/white/yellow colour) - I'm colourblind so please excuse the horrible/inaccurate description of the colour.

Yesterday my elephantnose was found dead - I think it starved because he couldn't compete for food. All the other fish (congo tetras, kribensis and african butterfly fish) show no signs of stress. The bichir himself doesnt seem stressed (although he swims into the glass a bit and swims erratically at times but he's done this since I got him).

I've been feeding him massivore delite. He doesn't seem that interested in them because they are big. Was feeding him 2 a day but he never finished them. I've now been feeding him massivore and carnivore pellets (hikari). I've also been feeding him frozen food (white bait) once or twice a week - he usually heats 70% of a 6cm white bait.

Is this normal? changing of colour? Nothing else has been changed in the tank apart from the recent addition of two plants that were bought from a reputable LFS.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

Andrew

Whats the water quality like?
Although these guys are very resilient they still need good water. Regular water changes needed.
From your pictures, I don't seen any oxygen being pumped in the tank. The other fish need the 02.

might be the substrate. Bichirs blend their colour with their sourrounding substrate.
