my senegalus jumped out of the tank it's been 2 days, i don't know how long he stood there, maybe a couple of hours. when I found him he was quite dry, immobile and his skin was red. i put him back in the tank and he started swimming weird. i left him to see what would happen. next day he was sitting in the bottom moving his body sometimes he even went to surface to breath once. at night I found him on the bottom with his belly upwards i didn't knew what to do so i plugged an air pump to oxigenate better the water so he wouldnt have do breath at surface. some hours ago i checked him and i found that his belly and his cloacal region are red, his belly is still upwards.

please help me because I have no idea about what I should do.

thanks in advance, nicolas.

I am sure that you will get some specific recommendations soon (Anne/Cohazard?)
My thoughts

First off, you are lucky to have found him alive (most jumpers are not that lucky)

Second, drying out would have decimated the protective slime coat and left the fish vunerable to infection. I would start treament immediatly with at the bare minimum melafix.(Other antibotics, salt heat-wait for that recomendation)

Finally, seal that tank it is amazing how they can fit through tight spaces

Good luck, I lost an endi to the same fate.

i lost 1 10" delhezi,2 longfin senegal from jumping =( the delhezi survived for 2 hours,it had the same syptom as your bichir, hopefully yours survives

If I understand the post it kind of sounds like internal injuries and theres not much you can do

Sorry to hear it; that doesn't sound good. I hope he makes it. Don't give up all hope. sometimes a fish will surprise you with what it will survive. Somethings I might suggest
1. Make sure no other fish in the tank can get to him while he's weak.
2. Lower the water level to make surfacing easier.
3. If he does start to pull through and become more active DON'T feed him for a while, and make sure he doesn't have access to anything he might eat. If he has internal wounds and they do start to heal you don't want him trying to digest anything.

GOOD LUCK

That was a great post, I have nothing to add.

I have had jumpers and never tried putting them in water to see if they would still be alive, I figured it was a goner once it's not able to move anymore, goes to show we learn something every day.

thanks for the responses, but since the last post it has gone worse and worse until it died.

this won't happen again.

nicolas.

sorry to hear i lost a lima shovel nose cat to the same fate

put some salt to the water, helps get rid of some bacteria and parasites to aid your young senegalus in recovery. almond leaves may also help.

just immerse the leaf in your tank and let it seep for 2 days until your water will turn to gold. after remove the leaves.
