My wife wants to setup a frog and turtle tank. I personaly have no clue if they can even live together. So far we haven't pick any type of frog or turtle. so any info would be nice of what kinds would work together and how to setup the tank. Pic's woould be best

Turts and frogs are a hard combo to do because most turts consider frogs as food and large frogs like bull frogs eat small turtles. MAYBE you could try a US marsh evoirement with a huge tank and medium size frogs like leopard frogs Rana pipiens and smaller turtles like stink pots and spooted turts but no garantee. Remenbar put animals survival and well being above all estetics:)

Yep, I agree with coura. It might work, but it's a pretty big risk. I'd recommend either doing a frog or a turtle tank, not both. Years ago when I was maybe 10, I tried putting my RES and treefrogs in the same tank. I knew immediately that wouldn't work when the RES instantly tried to climb the glass to get to the treefrogs that were all hanging out in the top corners of the tank, lol.

I agree as well. I have watched even "well-behaved" turtles such as stinkpots prey on frogs in the wild.

An alternative is to create a "stacked" setup, with a cabinet containing two tanks. This way you can keep turtles below and frogs above; with a little planning of decor, the two tanks will look like one.

How much space/what size tank can you manage? A few turtles, such as Sternotherus (musk turtle) and Kinosternon (mud turtle) species, can be kept in relatively small tanks, but most turtles need a lot of space.

right now all i have is a 30gal long (not sure if it holds water) and a 55 gal maybe bigger need to check (doesn't hold water). please let me know what is best to get with what i have. Nothing is big in height. i truly not sure what is the best to use or what kind of animal is the best to get. my wife wants a turttle and i want a frog. so any help would be nice

I suggest you don't. and besides a turtle and a frog can't live together in a 50 gal you will probably need a 100gal tank but if you house them in separate tanks the turtle can stay in a 50 gallon tank and the frog can stay in a 20 gallon tank.

i understand that can't live together. just trying to get the best setup i can. if i have to get another tank for the turtle that's ok. I just don't want to do this half assed. and regret it down the road

Either tank could be used for frogs. There are a lot of different frog species you could keep in either tank; only big, powerful frogs like bullfrogs would be excluded. Do you want a jungle-like setup? Do you like big, fat frogs like Ceratophrys or little, delicate frogs like Agalychnis? Somewhere in between? There are so many species available it's hard to recommend one without knowing more about your preferences.

That said, I'm about to set up a 55 with a group of green treefrogs (Hyla cinerea). They are a good beginner's frog- pretty, hardy, and inexpensive.

I would not keep turtles in either tank. There are a few aquatic species which may be kept in a 55 gallon, but you would need to reseal the tank.
