Can anyone help me sex this texas cichlid in the following video? It's not a regular texas, looks like a hybrid. Wondering what sex it might be based on the interactions with my male FH. Anyone have thoughts?

Clips at 1:08, 1:30 and 4:00 seem to show bonding attempts between the two.

Yeah, definitely not a regular texas, or even a hybrid of a texas. Most likely a red texas experiment made by breeding a green texas and a flowerhorn that didn't quite turn out perfect.

Anyways, seems like male. Does seem like it has somewhat of a black dorsal fin, but can't really tell and the few times it flexes it out seems like it's not actually a black blotch, so yeah.

Have you tried venting it?

This should definitely be in the HYBRID section, you'd get a lot more replies.

I don't see any bonding going on. Whenever my fish would start to pair up, there would be a lot of flaring and tail slapping. You wont be able to sex your Texas hybrid just by looking at it. Have you tried leaving your Texas hybrid and convict alone? Since you know for sure its female maybe you'll see some different behavior.

thanks mates. i'll keep checking. if it spawns with the Convict, we'll know for sure. i suck at venting...

I would say its a Carpintis hybrid with something. I would guess a female. Is the dorsal black? It looks black(darker) to me, but cant really tell.
