Had these 3 for about 5 months and they are between 3" & 4" the bigger of the tree always eats first and seams to be in charge so I am guessing it is the alpha male? The littler two seam to run together and swim around together a lot however they do not eat until the bigger fish is done and has moved away. 20181017_122519[1].jpg 20181017_122519[1].jpg 20181017_122444.jpg

I can't help with sexing ebjds but just wanted to say good luck with yours. I've got one around the same size as yours and he's doing great! IMG_20181017_230633336_BURST001.jpg

I think I see two males and one female, though EBJDs are difficult to sex without venting.

You can sometimes determine their sex by their behaviour, males will try to impress females, females may hide more due to the persuit of males....

Hi, I think you got 2 males and one female too.
The two bigger ones have pointed dorsal fin.
And most male cichlids grow bigger and quicker than their females.

If the three are the same age and you have a mix of male and female, then the most aggressive is the male.

What makes it challenging is that you might have 3 females.

It is just hard to tell with EBs. My sure fire way to tell is to plop in a known female - but if one of your three is a male, then your peaceful harmony will end.

Great pics by the way. Great trio of EBs!
