Hey I posted a few months back that I got a red Texas and now he or she is putting on some size and getting quite territorial, starting to wonder if male or female, I don’t see any egg tube yet and the fins are quite long but I know those aren’t sure methods , wondering if someone can help ?

Looks male to me. Although a hybrid, the female Red Texas often display a black blotch on the dorsal fin, typical of several Central American Cichlid females.

With Red Texas Hybrids most of what you can visually see is thrown out the window for sexing. I have a female with a pronounced forehead almost entering a "nuchal hump" style. I would quick sex her as male excpet the fact she gives me anywhere between 1,500 -3'000 eggs per cycle. Your best option is to Uluse a divider and insert a female parrot next door. Within days to weeks you'll see breeding signs if its a male. If its female shell either ignore the other female or consistently try and eat her alive.if your RT is male then double whammy, you can test for fertility. Also, male red texas are not all infertile, but almost all of the young ones are. Much like the original Kamfa strain, males take longer to genetically develop and can become fertile in later age and development. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, I’m looking to get my hands on a female cichlid either a parrot or a female carpentis , hoping he’s fertile , pushing about 6 inches right now

IMO parrot wether its BP, KKP, Ingot, or mammon are the best red breeders. They cant cause a lot of damage and can take a beating during breeding. As cruel as it sounds, its something to be looking for, texas cichlids can breed extremely aggressively, and the mate is just as important as the set up. If you're looking for a proven female kkp I'm sure theres one under the flowerhorn section on aquabid, siamcrossbreeding tends to have them up pretty consistently. If jot theres always ebay, fb groups, etc..
