Hello, I recently purchased a 4 inch texas cichlid, had beautiful colors so I thought I'd pick him or her up, anyways I've tried sexing and I wanna say male but the dark spot of the dorsal fin is starting to make be believe shes female, wondering if anyone could help me out with sexing?

Would you be able to take a pic of the vent? Kind of hard to tell from just side pics, a vent pic is usually the most accurate.

How quick is the fish growing?
Males I have found past the 4" point will grow much quicker and get larger.
The dorsal blotch on this fish is present but it's hard to tell still especially since the green metallic spots are kind of covering the blotch. Vent shot may help

Agree with Gourami swami.
And although this may seem trivial, that is not a Texas Cichlid (Herichthys cyanoguttatus) it is Herichthys carpintus, (not from Texas)
Here is a mature male, in spawning color

Below a female, also in breeding color

normal everyday color male, about 10"

Well if I was judging this like a FH, I would say it's female since the vent looks to be bigger then the anus.

I have to disagree, to me the vent looks smaller than the anus. Though I also don’t think the pictures are clear enough to positively vent.

These are Herichthys carpintus Location Chairel
Laguna Charel is lake near Tampico Tamaulipas, near the shore of the Caribbean. it is a very higly wind swept area for a significant parts of the year, so
the lake is fairly turbid most of the time, which may account for the intense colors on this variant.
Cichlids from turbid waters can sometimes be more colorful than those from clear water.
Better to see you with my dear.......
