Hello I just purchased a 2.5 inch Texas cichlid, I’m thinking female because not the prominent bock spot in the dorsal but I wanted a few other opinions if anyone could help
Probably too small to tell for sure, but that spot is a decent indicator.
Typically they need to be bigger and are easiest when in breeding dress. duanes
I guess I’ll give it some time and see forsure but I’m leaning towards female also, funny because out of the batch at the store she was the biggest and usually I find the males are the bigger ones as they grow
I agree
Trying to determine young cichlid gender by size, at the same age, in a LFS is often not reliable.
Its not until close to maturity that female growth slows up, and the males have a spurt outgrowing females by leaps and bounds.
