my jardini is 8.5" approx 5 months old feeding him azoo aro sticks and superworms

all of a sudden both his eyes started to bulge out a little and he's swimming pretty uncoordinated almost as if semi-drunk maintaining partial control....rubbing into walls etc a lot.

i added a little extra sea salt to the tank to treat him

have 800+ gph filtration in 180g tank so water is crystal clear

anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Not exactly sure whats up, but it would help if you posted your water parameters. Hopefully someone can give you the answers you're looking for. Good Luck

just had this problem with my silver. eyes popping out and swimming funny. nobody was any help to me, so i did a water change, added salt and a broad spectrum antibiotic. It worked. fish is almost back to normal and this was about 3 days with meds in water.
since i work in the medical field i use whatever is in our sample cabinets. I used levofloxacin 750mg per 10gallons seemed to work. i'm sure pennicillin will work fine. good luck i hope my experiment will help.
i am still not sure what caused this condition.

if its eyes are bulging out like that, i most likely has drop eye, a result of feeding it too much protein. this only happens in arowanas. i would recommend switching its diet slightly for the drop eye. i have no idea what to tell you about the funny swimming. hope this helps

That may be the same thing as Malawi bloat. It is a hexamita flagellate protozoan. It happens with Malawis when you feed them too much protein rich food because many of them are herbivorous. You could try a Flagel type meditation for internal flagellates. The eyes bulging out is caused by the buildup of internal gas. Does not sound good. I don't know if you can use Epson salts in the water as when you treat Malawi bloat.

Hey crustman i noticed bubbles were released from his face as i was watching him swim yesterday you may be on to something any ideas how to help? his diet is protein-rich but he eats sticks and worms...so it's pretty balanced...and he eats one algae wafer a day too from my pleco/catfish feeding (greedy)

i do 15% water change every week
water parameters are perfect but i do wc anyway.
i have the full test kit.

i'm gonna retest everything right now and do 10% wc.

fish was "sitting" on the bottom not moving until i walked up to it =(

one eye is less bulging now...other one same bulge. fish is compeltely inactive on top of clean gravel that i sift through once a week

my powerhead + dual hangon filters washed once a week

canister filter washed once every 2 months
